The Custom Products Group mission within Data Capture Solutions business unit (DCS), operating under the Enterprise Visibility and Mobility (EVM) Division of Zebra Technologies is to customize solutions based on our industry leading Data Capture portfolio which includes laser and imaging based barcode scanners, Kiosks, and RFID readers to meet specific customer needs in their mission critical applications.
Job opening is for a Senior Manager to lead the Data Capture Solutions Custom Products Group (CPG) based in Holtsville NY. As the lead of DCS CPG, you are expected to drive and manage custom product definition, business case, customer use case(s), project scoping, quoting, and overall execution activities required to create customer specific hardware and/or software based solutions in accordance with established and defined business metrics. These projects can be varied in nature and will range from simple “turn key” hardware or software solutions to projects with high technical/execution complexity and/or high touch Zebra sales team and customer components. You are also expected to set up performance metrics, drive process improvements and customer satisfactions, managing priorities, communicate with internal and external customers as well as the senior management team. You will be managing the CPG Program Malmanagement function and resource directly and will be managing the engineering resource indirectly with the support from the engineering leadership. You will be reporting to the VP of Engineering.
The position will have the full ownership of DCS CPG performance. You will have the responsibility for driving multiple concurrent custom product activities and programs, leveraging diverse engineering teams located across our global engineering and support function footprint, for multiple customer opportunities across the portfolio. This position has the responsibility for supporting the definition, introduction, and overall program management of the customer specific hardware and/or software solution requests including interfacing with Zebra account teams and customers. Metrics include: customer satisfaction, request response time, custom product quality, custom product revenue, project development cost and schedule, as well as overall product cost and margin.
BS in engineering; MS or MBA preferred; with 10-15 years product development experience.
Must be able to learn and understand the product needs of the customers, sales teams, and have the ability to translate the needs into a custom product technical specification in conjunction with the custom product engineering team. Successful candidate must have the ability to continually support the program queue, establish and modify priorities in conjunction with DCS senior management and Product Management team, and support the definition of new custom products in order to achieve and support the overall business objectives of Zebra Technologies. Candidate must have excellent verbal, written and oral presentation skillsets and ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. Successful candidate must have knowledge of enterprise business fundamentals, hardware and software product development process and associated certification activities, JDM and EMS interactions, cost accounting principles, and be proficient with MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and MS project applications. Finally, the successful candidate must be customer focused and success oriented, have strong program and resource management skills and ability to prioritize and communicate well inside and outside the organization.
