    Position available for an Advanced Mechanical Engineer in the Engineering Customer Response Team (ECRT) within the Enterprise Mobile Computing (EMC) group; a world class industry leader in mobile computing products, within the Enterprise Mobility Business of Zebra Technologies, Inc. Mechanical ECRT engineers work on post release engineering efforts, supporting terminal and accessory designs that have been released to production.  These efforts include (but are not limited to) customer issues, product enhancement efforts, cost reduction efforts, internal engineering investigations, product end of life support, manufacturing and service issues and design team feedback/lessons learned.  The primary focus is working to resolve systemic mechanical engineering related issues on released products by providing cost effective, time sensitive and sound engineering resolutions. 



    This is a position for an Advanced Mechanical Engineer with significant and relevant work experience, working with rugged handheld and fixed mount opto-electronic products. You will be joining a world class industry leading team in Holtsville, New York, and are expected to work effectively as both an independent individual contributor and as a team leader.


    As an advance level mechanical engineer in ECRT, expectations are to support multiple and simultaneous, mechanical sustaining efforts which can include critical customer issues with revenue implications and senior leadership visibility. Team members are required to address issues from initial investigation, through root cause analysis, solution concept designs, prototyping, solution review with business units, implementation, production/service cut in, and documentation release. The position requires excellent communication skills and ability to work with teams at all levels of the company including all discipline design teams, service, account teams, product management, finance, manufacturing, 3rd party suppliers and Joint Development Manufacturing partners. 


    As an advanced engineer, the responsibilities expand further to leading the cross functional teams working these efforts, managing mechanical relationship with our partner ME teams, taking on activities outside the normal job scope to improve product costing, design performance, process improvement, and/or increased testing capabilities.


    Advanced engineers in ME ECRT will be required to independently lead efforts. As such, strong motivation to succeed and self-direction is a requirement of the position. You must be able to solve complex engineering problems independently, leveraging hands on stress and vibration analysis, tolerance analysis and thorough root cause analysis. Additionally, you must excel at written and verbal communication skills, being able to clearly communicate complex engineering solutions to global engineering teams, business teams, and senior management. Advanced team members are required to take on multiple different efforts at once. Organizational, multitasking and prioritization skills are a must. 


    ECRT has a direct effect on customer satisfaction/operation. Team members must be highly skilled engineers providing unique and expeditious resolutions to customer facing issues fulfilling both the customer’s and Zebra’s requirements.


    • Minimum of a 4-year Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution in the U.S. or comparable foreign university.
    • Minimum 15-year product design experience in handheld/portable industrial or consumer electronic product industries.
    • Expert experience in designing and evaluating injection molded plastics, die cast parts, and precision sheet metal is required.
    • Knowledge and experience of Creo in part/assembly design, and drafting is required.
    • DFA/DFM and statistical quality control experience applied to high volume production products preferred.
    • Precision opto-mechanical assembly design, manufacturing experience and structural FEA preferred.
    • Experience working ODM/JDM models is a plus.
