Senior Data-Pipeline Engineer

The new member will be part of the product team responsible for the development of back-end components, a software development division of Zebra located in downtown Chicago. This team is responsible for the development of solutions that will transform sensing data coming from a variety of device types into actionable insights using descriptive, predictive or prescriptive analytics. The solutions will be deployed in both Cloud and On-Premise environments. This team is using the latest technologies to develop those solutions like Kafka, Kafka Streams, Machine Learning, MongoDB, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes. Those solutions are for our customers in the following verticals Transport & Logistics, Healthcare, Retail and Manufacturing.

Working within a multi-functional, Agile working environment, the Java Developer is responsible for hands on development. This candidate will have a sound knowledge of Java, Relational Database, ELT Methodology, NoSQL, GCP and be prepared to work on a variety of new technologies as required during the development of new solutions. The candidate should be self-motivated and should have the commitment to work on rapidly changing requirements to meet end user needs.

• Establishes requirements for moderately complex software design projects. Prioritizes features to insure the most important get implemented
• Participates in code reviews and identifies bad sections early in the process and then recodes them
• Completes all phases of moderately complex software design projects. Carries out all in-process and final inspection activities
• Develops and tests documentation for the software projects
• Considers the latest technologies and new approaches to designs and implementation of new designs
• Reviews changes or upgrades to existing software and/or firmware designs. Develops new technology to tackle unique problems
• Provide recommendations and solutions to problems using experience in multiple technical areas
• Applies existing technology in new ways to improve performance and productivity
• May develop new tools to aid in the analysis and solving of problem
• Exercises judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
• Receives little instruction on day-to-day work and general instructions on new assignments
• May influence the activities of junior level personnel (exempt professional and non-exempt)
• Networks with senior, internal and external, personnel in own area of expertise. Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in an appropriate engineering discipline required
• Bachelors degree and 4+ years experience or Masters degree and 2+ years experience

• Technical experience

  • 5+ Years of working experience with Java
  • Relational databases and ETL methodology
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform is a plus
  • Working knowledge of Apache Beam
  • Relational and non-relational data stores design and deployment, including data retention and archiving strategy
  • Data processing management and development, including real-time data ingestion and batch processing
  • Working knowledge of API design best practice.
  • Working knowledge of building compelling back end application frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of Kafka
  • Strong interest in product development and building extensible frameworks.
  • Knowledge of GCP technologies such as PubSub, BigQuery and Firestore or BigTable
  • Experience developing micro services driven architecture.
  • Knowledge of container technology such as Docker'
  • Continuously improve, refine and refactor the code.
