    The Program Manager leads low-level, simple programs consisting of multiple, small projects.


    Ideally, we are looking for someone with a technical educational background in electrical, mechanical, or software engineering, who then has worked in those fields either as a system engineer, mechanical engineer or electrical engineer for a number of years.  During that time our person would preferably have some experience in the management of projects.  Our ideal candidate would have done this in their recent past and now view an opportunity to move upwards into fulltime program management role as a next step forward in their career.

    The requirements for this role include(not limited to):

    • Bachelor's degree in Appropriate Engineering disciple (Electrical, Mechanical, Software)
    • 5+ years of overall engineering experience required
    • 2+ years of Program Management experience preferred
    • Background as a Program Manager, Systems Engineer, or Mechanical/Electrical /Software Engineer (who leads some projects) is greatly preferred.
    • Experience with hardware environments


    This position is in Zebra's Data Capture Solutions group, which specializes in Barcode and RFID Scanners and Solutions.


    Coordinates departmental or multi-functional teams, passionate about delivering new or upgraded existing products or services. Leading programs from inception to completion (or transition), including tracking and evaluation of program performance. Ensures that programs are completed on time, within budget, and within accepted quality metrics by managing through Project Managers, each responsible for handling an aspect of the program. Participates in program review and status meetings, and communicates project status. Motivates program team to ensure optimal performance. Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure objectives have been met. Figures out and develops approach to solutions.


    • Manages the development and implementation of a company's products and services to success
    • Acts as project coordinator- monitoring the program from initiation through delivery including planning and directing schedules and coordinating budget/spending. Gathers updates from the project team and acts independently to develop a Project Plan for projects of moderate to significant scope which may include novel products or services. Uses established tools, approaches/methodologies and templates to guide and detail the plan and communicate it to the team. Gathers feedback from the team to revise and complete the Project Plan as needed
    • May lead multiple limited to moderate scope projects simultaneously, or run part of a larger program directly or through oversight of less senior program managers
    • Nominates and solicits participation of team members from key partner teams including Offer /Product Management, Engineering, Service/support and other functional groups, set timelines and budgets independently. Oversees the work of the project team (indirectly supervises) involving members from a wide range of disciplines including engineering, marketing, and operations
    • Coordinates multi-functional activities, ensuring completion of the program i.e. product on schedule and within budget constraints. Owns regular meeting coordination, facilitation and documentation of progress
    • Captures status updates from the project team and interprets inputs from the team to assemble a consolidated view of status. Provides regular status updates to senior management as directed. Status reports are encouraged to be concise summaries, tailored to the audience. Owns ensuring alignment from key leaders of landmark achievements before moving the program forward
    • Demonstrates the ability to see multi-functional impacts of decisions and project plans and execution. Balances scope, schedule and budget considerations to adjust the project with minimal impact to the business. Understands the business objectives of the program and assumes personal accountability for success of the program against those objectives
    • Provides assistance with coordination of work and project assets to assist the project team. Personally anticipates and addresses obstacles or issues that are moderate to significant in severity and calls out complex issues to management for assistance. Independently engages additional resources as needed to address obstacles or delays. Adjusts the plan per management guidelines as delays or obstacles are experienced
    • Demonstrates intermediate knowledge/application of basic Program Management techniques and approaches including familiarity with vocabulary. Demonstrates knowledge and use of PMI PMBOK language and concepts. Efficiently uses project management tools in scheduling and staffing plans, with an understanding of task durations and dependencies. Develops detailed risk management plans
    • Demonstrates intermediate understanding of development processes and product launch scope and activities
    • Very limited supervision by management is encouraged in this position for complex or novel problems
    • May coach or act as partner point for level 1 or level 2 Program Managers
    • Supports early stage go to market activities and transition to marketing


    • Bachelor's degree in Appropriate Engineering disciple (Electrical, Mechanical, Software) Required
    • 5+ years of overall engineering experience required
    • 2+ years of Program Management experience preferred
    • Background as a Program Manager, Systems Engineer, or Mechanical/Electrical /Software Engineer (who leads some projects) is greatly preferred.
    • Experience with hardware environments
    • Intermediate to advanced communication and facilitation skills. Formal training preferred
    • Intermediate to advanced presentation skills. Proven skills in addressing mid to senior level multi-functional audiences
    • Demonstrated working knowledge of advanced concepts with program management approaches, tools and methodologies. PMP certification preferred
    • Intermediate to advanced skills in PC based documentation tools including MS Office and MS Project
    • Intermediate to advanced skills in delegation and follow up
    • Demonstrated working knowledge/experience of technical business unit assigned to (Hardware, Software, Services, etc.)
